"We would like to give praise where it is due. Teri Gourley from your branch and Carmel Colton from the Lisburn Branch came to our home to help our grandson Jordan with getting work, on the Family Support course. They were absolutely brilliant and did get Jordan a very good job. Teri and Carmel built up his self confidence and got him in work. We are very grateful and wish to thank them both for all they did, and let you know how much Teri is appreciated by ourselves and others I am sure."

Elizabeth and James King

“I doubted I was employable, now I know I am thanks to Nichola (People 1st Job Mentor, Dairy Farm). Her help in getting me the opportunity with H&J Martin was invaluable. It gave me the confidence to go in and do a really good job. I'm delighted to have secured a full-time post and proud that my work has cemented a good relationship between the two companies that could see others benefit from similar opportunities.”

Raymond Devlin, H&J Martin

"I would like to say thank you to Jason and Lesley for all of your support and guidance to help me back to work. Thanks to you and People 1st I regained a lot of confidence and this has helped me move into work again. I love my new job and I hope I will be staying at Applegreen for a very long time."

Carlene McLernon, Applegreen

"It’s been a few years since I took a qualification but Amanda had that magical calmness that motivated and inspired me, which helped me through this course and the qualification award (NVQ Level 4 Advice & Guidance) She also encouraged me to challenge myself further and I am now working towards the Level 7 Strategic Management and Leadership"

Margaret McCloskey, NFRN

"Blue Arrow first engaged with People 1st early in 2015 when we decided to recruit an Apprentice for our office in Belfast. I attended an informative seminar held by People 1st with the REC in attendance which taught me all about the course programme. This apprenticeship is great for people who are looking to start a rewarding career in an office in the Recruitment sector. Staff within People 1st are very helpful, the tutors have excellent knowledge in Recruitment and they also conduct regular reviews to ensure Apprentice and Employer are enjoying and understanding everything. I am delighted to say that my Apprentice completed her NVQ and Certificate in Recruitment Practice and is developing to be a knowledgeable and well-rounded Recruiter! I hope to engage with People 1st again in the future to utilise this fantastic programme."

Blue Arrow Recruitment

"I first started my apprenticeship in May 2015. I think it is a fantastic opportunity for young people for on the job training opportunities. All the staff were excellent and were so much help the whole way through. They helped me along my first year with my first ever job. They kept in contact with me regularly to help me complete my NVQ Level 3 in Recruitment and my REC Certificate in Recruitment Practice and I'm happy to say I did that this year. I would recommend any young person to apply for schemes such as this one, it's great for your CV, and it's a good way to start off your professional career with gaining experience in a corporate setting, as well as gaining qualifications too. I would also encourage businesses to get involved too, perhaps by introducing an apprentice to your company and training them up."

Apprentice with Blue Arrow Recruitment

People 1st in Newry sincerely help you to find work. Employees are very friendly, show care and give useful advice. I wish them the very best in the future and also am grateful for the help I received. I have never met staff so caring and committed. Special thanks to Jordi B, best of luck in the future.

Deividas Pikelis

"People 1st have been a pleasure to deal with. Bemac would work alongside People 1st in Lisburn and People 1st in Dairy Farm, Belfast. Our main contacts would be Aileen Carson, Nichola Greene and Rosemary McNeilly from the Lisburn office, and Don Burns from the Belfast office. They are all extremely helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Nothing is too much hassle. People 1st have a fantastic team and we hope to continue working alongside you."

Melanie Ingram, Bemac Training Ltd

"I would love to say thank you for guiding me through the programme and I am proud to say that I learned a lot about myself as a person and also as a leader doing this course. I have tested different theories and learned how to read people and also that by doing simple things like SWOT analysis during reviews helps me bring the best out in my team. I really enjoyed the 6 day workshops as I managed to put into action immediately what I had learned and I have had fun testing out theories and methods. The written part of the course allowed me to look more in-depth at the business and ask questions. PESTLE analysis showed me that its more 'figures' regarding our business and I feel more confident now knowing all that I learned." Thank you again and I hope this is not the end of the road for me regarding the learning path through People 1st."

Elena Gracey, Store Manager, Lordwardens Consultancy Ltd

"By doing the Management NVQ I have learned so much. Different ways to think about things, different ways to react to things and how to just step back and observe before jumping in. I have had my eyes opened to the need to work together, as a team. Something I struggle with is the pace in which tasks are carried out by some people and I find myself just doing it myself, because it's quicker that way. This does not help anyone, and only leaves more things for me to do. I have learned to be more open with the team, to be a better communicator and to involve everyone which leads to a happier and more effective office. Through doing this NVQ I have been taught many skills. Some I already had, but needed worked on, and some were completely new. I thoroughly enjoyed the contents of this course and its relevance to my specific work. John was an excellent facilitator who was always willing to give assistance if needed."

Joanne McFarlane, Operations Manager, Kids 4 School

I really enjoyed doing the (Manage4Success) course with yourself. You created a great atmosphere in the group and it was very comfortable attending the classes. Thanks for your hospitality and hopefully we can catch up again sometime in the future.

Francis Tumelty, Director, Hugh J. O'Boyle Training

Caroline, on completing the course I would like to start by personally thanking you for your support, throughout the process! Your help at the end of the phone to get back on track was invaluable and understanding my current working environment and demands were appreciated. Overall, I found the course very informative and great value (especially in my current transition to a new contract). I adopted a few methods during the course, including change management and ordered and used some great recommended reading materials for staff throughout the business. Assessments carried out by John Bell were equally beneficial and very well explained. I was prepared and ready for each topic and again John was very flexible to the demands placed on my time by the business. I look forward to working with People 1st very soon again and hopefully offering the same opportunities for development for all staff on site.

Paula Denvir, Service Delivery Manager CRC, Echo Managed Services

I have to say that apart from time pressures, I enjoyed the course and feel that I have learnt from it. Things that I learnt from the workshops included Identifying areas for improvement in leadership skills with the help of the leadership style questionnaire which was very interesting and I will use with my team going forward in an effort to help me effectively adopt different leadership styles to adopt to individual personalities. I also gained a much better understanding of key elements of strategic planning and impacts which I and the organisation can use in our strategy plans for the future. I also learnt a lot on change management . Although we experience change management on an on-going basis, I felt that the module helped me to see a more structured way through the process from preparing for change, managing change to reinforcing change and ensuring that all of the elements of change are covered such as stakeholder mapping, this I will use and share with my colleagues.

Bryan Gourley, Commercial Director (Timber) JP Corry

The NVQ Diploma in Management and Leadership course has been beneficial to our organisation in many ways. Although I was managing an office every day I never had the knowledge to support this. My mentor and Assessor Caroline & John were extremely supportive throughout the course. The units covered in the course were all relative to the operations of our organisation. The topics covered in the units provided me with extra knowledge and methods that will make planning, implementing and evaluating operations within our organisation a lot easier. Throughout the process the support and guidance from my mentor and assessor was exceptional. They were so understanding and accommodating for the meeting etc. I will definitely recommend this course and People 1st. If I am to complete further courses I will look to People 1st. Thank you for all your help and support.

Leanne Llewellyn MSci (Hons) ARLA-Estate Agent Northern Property

“After being unemployed since 2010 due to health problems, I am now returning to employment with Belfast City Council. I think that securing this job is a testament that anyone on Steps 2 Success, even those like myself who have health problems, can secure employment if they are willing to put the effort in.”

William Spence - Steps 2 Success Candidate

“Right from the start, Johnny (Jonathan Watson, People 1st LEMIS Job Mentor) has been more than helpful and put me at ease. Everything was explained in a way that I was able to understand, which had never been the case before. Johnny kept in contact with me and my confidence improved because I knew, finally, someone believed in me.”

Trevor Greer - LEMIS Candidate

“Due to the countless social benefits that come with the Community Family Support Programme, I have recently made several referrals to this programme. During the 26 weeks these families have spent with the CFSP family liaison officers, they have received help from professionally qualified family support workers to address the health, social, economic, educational, employment and training issues that impact on their daily lives, which has allowed them to focus on getting their lives back on track. This programme has also enabled the families to get support and advice on personal issues, and in a number of cases they were able to make contact with other agencies who can help them further. I think the family learning component is an integral part of this programme, as it helps the families to gain confidence in regards to their social skills and also motivates them and gives them something to look forward to. I could not praise this service and those who deliver it enough.”

Karen Missi – Belfast Central Mission – Support Worker

I have really enjoyed my training in business administration. Karen, my tutor, was encouraging and helpful to me and gave me the confidence and skills to gain Level 3

Aaron Megaw who recently gained EDI Level 3 Certificate

I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank both you, John, and Caroline for your support on the M4S course. I found the course informative, inspirational, beneficial and most importantly enjoyable. The workshops where conducted in a very relaxed atmosphere which I thought encouraged discussion and group participation, due to Caroline's knowledge and experience in this particular area and the professional way she presented the information. Each aspect of the course was clearly defined and the key objectives clearly outlined. Although challenging at times your personality and dedication enabled me to progress through the various elements, hopefully meeting most of the key criteria. I have gained a tremendous amount from my participation on the M4S course, only wishing I had done a course like this 10 year ago. In my current role I am continually assessing my own management style and implementing many of the learning’s from the course.

Lee Carroll - Director of Football Education The Football Managem

I have completed the NVQ Level 3 in Management. I thought the course was complex and detailed however I feel this was required in order to cover all elements of the course. I believe the qualification will serve me well as I hope to progress in the customer service management sector and aim to make good use of the qualification as I hope to further my opportunities and career. I would definitely recommend the course as it was manageable within the constraints of my working week and I received much appreciated assistance from my tutor, John, who was always on hand to provide support when needed.

Ciaran Forrester, Team Manager, Echo Managed Services

"It’s your work and you feel like it’s your decision, because it’s your life and your own decision, other training organisations fail to recognise this. This is what I like about People 1st."

Amy Cameron, Training for Success Programme, Dairy Farm

I thoroughly enjoyed the course and found the workshops extremely helpful as things seemed quite daunting at the beginning. Once the workshops started I really managed to break things down and prioritise my goals. The information given was very useful and helpful and I was then able to implement some changes into my work role. I believe I have gained more confidence and understanding of what is expected of my job role and am more able to work on my own KPI’s. I now look forward to my next management appraisal and to receive some feedback on the improvements I have made. I hope in the future to move onto a more responsible role within the company as it expands within Northern Ireland and I feel undertaking the business management course has boosted my knowledge and confidence to apply for future promotion.

Tracy Cash, Assistant Area Manager of S&E Manager

Nichola, thanking you seems like an understatement of how much you and your project (LEMIS) have changed my life. I was nervous at the beginning, as you know someone with my background normally doesn’t get second chances, but you found me that course and because of it I got into full time work. Tell your boss at People 1st, this made a difference not just to me but to my whole family. I will take you up on your offer of calling in someday just for a coffee and a chat. Who knew having a chat with such a bubbly young lady would have opened so many doors.

"I picked People 1st because my friend told me about the childcare course and I always wanted to study childcare. I am enjoying the course and am improving my Maths and English skills as well. I have completed my level 1 and am progressing to level 2 and have just secured a placement with Birdies Day Nursery."

Emma Lowry, Trainee at People 1st, Lisburn

"The Community Family Support Programme has given me the confidence, both mentally and physically in my home and school life. I feel more confident with my school work and my attendance and behaviour at school has improved. I feel a lot happier in school now."

Michael, Community Family Support Programme

I wanted to provide feedback on the course I have just completed. I found the classes very interesting and have been using the learning style questioners with the team. It also helped me manage the team better and think a lot about change.

Niall Mone, HCL

"I owe it to People 1st and my placement provider, as they went above and beyond to help me achieve my targets."

Dale Hanna, People 1st, Training for Success Trainee

I have been working with People 1st for the past 7 months now and their service has always been excellent. Their understanding of our business needs and the culture of our organisation enables them to provide us with high calibre applicants. They have always been professional, honest and reliable and I would not hesitate in recommending any company to avail of their services.

Lesley Kerr, Premier Inn Titanic Quarter

"I just wanted to drop you a quick note to say thank you very much for a very informative and helpful course on the ILM management level 2. I know some of the items appeared to be the basics but your portrayal of how even these basic items were crucial to achieving a successful end target require these, otherwise we will fail or not be efficient in what we do. I also found your approach & enthusiasm to the course and your communication of the various topics extremely helpful. I look forward to hopefully working with you again in the future. Once again thank you for all your assistance."

Jonathan Mc Garry, MJM Marine Limited

"The staff at People 1st were so helpful and easy to talk to, they helped me gain a bit of confidence that I needed for interviews coming up. I would recommend People 1st to anyone that finds it hard getting work because it helped me."

Sinead McPolin

Just a quick email to thank you so much for all your support during Manage4success course. I found all the material, content and feedback very useful. It was challenging at times but I feel I have developed greatly from taking part. I am now more confident with delegation and have been able to adapt my management style according to situation and/ or individual.

Lynsey Manson, Quality Care Services

"Thank you so much for this course. I have gained a great amount of self-worth and belief! I know myself that the course has made me a better manager and has allowed me to concentrate on the things I can change, and influence and forget about what I can't. I enjoyed our monthly get togethers, you were always very easy to engage with and I certainly hope to work directly with you, on my own development, in the near future. Thank you for reigniting so many management skills that I had forgotten I possessed."

Katriona Dixon, Service Delivery Manager, HCL

"We have engaged with People 1st Dairy Farm Training over the last 7 years. During this time we have been very happy with the quality of service we have received as employers and also the standard of training received by our staff. Telephone calls have always been responded to and site visits to help or explain things have always been very prompt. At present we have four staff members engaged in training with People 1st both in the Dairy Farm centre and also the Malone site."

Theresa Brady, Entre Manager

My name is Tanya Best, I am a mother of two girls with special needs. I have now been on the programme for roughly 14 weeks. My two daughters, my husband and I took part in a three week cookery class and enjoyed it immensely. It was great to do an activity as a team and spend time together, I think you definitely need to run classes longer. My daughters and I started Zumba last night for the first time also. I have found working with Jade very helpful and supportive and found her very easy to talk to. I know if I have any concerns about anything I can tell jade and she will be there to support me. Jade has been great help.

Tanya Best, Community Family Support Candidate

"You have been a great tutor, you made all classes so interesting. You have also been very supportive! I would definitely recommend this course to anyone."

Leanne Dodds, Daisychain Nursery, Manage4Success Candidate

I have recently completed a Management course with People 1st and I would just like to say a BIG THANK YOU to you all - in particular to Anne McCusker and John Bell. They both are excellent and were a joy to work with. All the information on the course was easy to understand and very informative - this was down to their great teaching skills. As a result of the course, I have learnt how to communicate better with my colleagues, how to delegate jobs to the correct people and how to observe areas in my colleagues' work. This in turn gives them confidence and by praising them, leads to a happier workplace. The workshops with Anne and the one to ones with John were both serious, but fun, which is why I enjoyed the course so much. I am recommending People 1st to all my work colleagues and also to anyone who is interested in furthering their career.

Patrick Rooney, Suki Tea

Manage4Success programme - I've been in a management position for many years, but there are so many things that I have learnt in this course that, when put into practice, have had a very positive result within my division. There is an increase in morale and motivation within the team, there is clear communication (using different methods!!) and if I'm honest - it's opened my eyes to better management.

Sean McGarry, PHS Pest Control

"Catherine is a miracle worker, she was very patient and her delivery and technique made all the classes challenging and interesting. Having always been terrified about maths, Catherine's teaching meant that I did not feel at all intimidated. I always felt that she believed in me and this helped me to achieve all my goals."

Michelle Russell, ApprenticeshipsNI Level 2 learner

"Manage4success has reinforced everything I do daily and enabled me to skill up and perform to a higher standard. It has heightened my awareness within various areas including, my communication skills including listening and delegating skills have improved. I manage difficult situations better and I have dealt with change within the organisation. The models covered in the workshops where very useful and improved my performance in this area. I found workshops, observations and discussions very beneficial as it helped me evaluate my practice and make improvements. After completing this course I would like to develop further within management."

Karen Quee, Flax Housing Association

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the chance of taking part in the Manage4Success course. I feel I'm a more complete manager than I was before the course, and a lot of that is down to you. The fact that I remembered to send my journal is proof that my skills have improved! I have also took time to reflect on the programme and there are a number of changes I'm going to make with the aim of having a more efficient environment for the staff to work. So once again, thank you very much and I wish you every success in all that you do.

Graham Rankin, Bottling Manager, Orchardville

"I am very grateful to have received funding through LEMIS for training towards my BHS exams earlier this year. I not only received great training to prepare for my exams but also a greater confidence in myself, my knowledge and my abilities. In addition I picked up many valuable presentation tips that have helped me in the setting up of my own equine training course for people with disabilities. My first group of trainees completed level 1 recently. They were so thrilled to graduate and have learned so much about horses and gained some valuable life skills along the way. I am so thrilled to be working and helping people through horses and and LEMIS has played a significant part in this."

Rita Seery, LEMIS trainee

'I felt the Management L3 course was very successful and useful for my type of job. It has helped give me more confidence in delegation and coaching and helped me develop to the sort of manager I would like to become. I am now the training rep for my store and through completing this course I have the tools that are very important to this role. I would actively encourage anyone who is involved in management to complete this course as I found it very useful.'

Mark Mc Dermott, Spar, Glenavy Road

Diane Koplewsky, Sleepy Hallow

"With the help of People 1st we developed an internal program that allowed us to provide a training course which we were able to run across all our departments and which in turn helped develop not only a Customer Service course but also enabled all our staff to gain Management and Leadership skills while gaining an industry recognized qualification. So impressed have we been with not only the results but by the take up of the course, we had 30 staff who took part, all of whom are based at our Operation at Belfast International Airport that we are already in the process of rolling this out to our staff based at Belfast City Airport".

Michael O'Neil, Operations Manager with Menzies Aviation

"We have used this programme for Level II and Level III Health and Social Care I would recommend to any employer. From the registration process to the completion, everything was flawless. The tutors have been exceptional as well as the Admin staff from the office."

Karen Fleming, Ben Madigan Care Home

"This programme provided a valuable opportunity for them to learn some of the tools and techniques necessary to effectively manage themselves, projects, and others that they interact with. The structure of the programme, compromising evening classes, projects within the workplace and a tutor who came to meet them in their workplace, was both effective and efficient."

Clifford McSpadden, CEO CMS Global, Banbridge

"People 1st have delivered a first class service to our company. They are dedicated to assisting our healthcare and domiciliary staff reach their full potential. The quality of service delivered from our staff who have gone through the QCF/Apprenticeship program has increased dramatically. Those who have completed their level 2 in Health and Social Care have expressed a desire to go on and complete their level 3. This is down to the tutors and mentors from People 1st. We would have no hesitation in recommending People 1st to any other company”.

Niamh Quinn, Trackars

"People 1st have been delivering training for Teleperformance staff for a number of years and have always provided us with a professional service. We have availed of the Management Apprenticeship to enable our Team Leaders to develop their skills and knowledge in all areas of leadership and management. The training has enabled our staff to develop their individual skills. Our staff have been able to apply the learning to their everyday job roles to achieve maximum efficiency in the workplace. Feedback from staff has shown that they felt well supported and encouraged by People 1st throughout their training. We look forward to working with the team at People 1st in the future".

Adam Hourican, Training Officer, Teleperformance

"Our company have been working with People 1st since 2006. During this time they have delivered NVQ/QCF Health & Social Care training to our domiciliary staff. I feel this training has given my staff focus and the confidence to believe in their own ability, in fact some of my staff were so enthusiastic that they have since moved on to further education relating to nursing and social work. Over the years we have also built up a wonderful relationship with the People 1st staff who are adaptable and accommodating to our company requirements."

Debbie Walton, MCare

"People 1st have been a great resource for our company. Anyone who we have worked with has been knowledgeable, helpful, determined and motivational in their efforts to develop our staff and help us to move our business forward."

"People 1st have always delivered a very personal service to Chain Reaction Cycles. Feedback from candidates on the apprenticeship programmes have made reference to the fact that they provide the theory behind what they do every day and help them perform tasks to a higher standard. The tailored Management programmes put the ‘fun’ back in learning and have provided many of the candidates with the confidence to strive for promotion. Thank you People 1st."

Orla Hogg, HR Manager, Chain Reaction Cycles

"The Management Apprenticeship provided an opportunity for me to achieve a qualification to help me progress in my job and take on new responsibilities. The programme was challenging, afforded me opportunities to gain personal skills and I learned innovative ways to manage, monitor and assess various situations whilst motivating and communicating more effectively with staff within my own working environment. As a result, my working role is more defined and I have been involved in a new resettlement project. The People 1st Mentors and Tutors were supportive, encouraging me in all aspects of the course and because of this I feel more confident in my abilities to manage this increase in work load in a positive and proactive way....... I left school over 40 years ago so if I can do it anyone can!"

April Smith, Northern Ireland Institute for the Disabled

"Thanks to the support from People 1st through the Apprenticeship programme we have seen an increase in the quality of workmanship and the willingness to improve skills as employees of this company, staff who more aware of who the customer is, what their needs are and how to satisfy those needs. Managers are now equipped with the tools to make the right decisions when business need changes and staff levels decrease through holidays and sickness."

Tommy Burn, Co-op Distribution

"This was my first experience of the QCF process and I was very surprised at how straightforward it was. I had imagined that I would have to fill a lever arch file of ‘evidence’ and write pages and pages of answers to questions but this was not the case. My assessor Amanda was able to ‘work shadow’ me and see first- hand what my job involved; she also joined me in one of my progress meetings with a client. She was then able to match what she had observed to the criteria of the units we had chosen together, making it a very efficient, yet thorough way of demonstrating my compliance. Completing the QCF has highlighted for me the extent of experience which I have obtained in my current position. It has also helped me to identify areas of customer service which I could further develop within the company."

Siobhan Reid, Customer Care Manager, Farran’s

"Many thanks to all involved from People 1st. The time, encouragement and assistance from the team was warmly welcomed by the group."

Maria Bradley, HR Manager, Gilbert Ash
