Massive congratulations to our Belfast Training for Success student, TJ Wright, who won the Trainee Barber of the Year Competition 2019 for Northern Ireland by City & Guilds Barbering Industry Board The MHFed.
MHFed CEO and Chairman of City&Guild’s, Adam Sloan, said of the competition.
“…we’ve had the biggest amount of entries. It’s been quite emotional for me actually as the standards have been through the roof.”
This achievement gave T.J the opportunity to travel to London and work with Desmond Murray to feature both his collective photos, and an editorial on himself in over 4 pages of barbering magazine BarberNV Magazine.
Desmond Murray Page is an award-winning Hairdresser and Photographer and was credited by an International Award from the A.I.P.P as the “Best Photographic Collection of the Year”. Desmond hopes in passing on his dedication and passion for the industry to these young talented new Barbers he will continue to inspire them in their future career in Hairdressing.
"When I found out I had won the N. Ireland Trainee Barber of the Year I was over the moon!
I can honestly say that I couldn't have asked for a better team of tutors around me encouraging me to do my best. I want to give a mention to all the staff in People 1st Hairdressing and Barbering Academy for believing and guiding me throughout my qualification.
Winning the award has confirmed to me that I am on the right path [...] the photoshoot with Desmond Murray is a dream come true and such an amazing experience for me as a trainee barber just starting my career. I intend to pursue my dream of one day opening a chain of salons in countries that I have yet to visit".
People 1st would like to say thank you to Adam Sloan and Damien Owens for their hospitality in London, everyone had an amazing time! Well done to all the winners in each region, we will look forward to work alongside you all in the future!
Finally People 1st would also like to give a special mention to students Cathal Harte and Dean Watson who placed 2nd and 3rd in the same competition.
