Course Description
This qualification will provide a broad understanding of the children and young people’s sector and to develop and enhance the practical skills and knowledge required; enable learners to make an informed assessment of their own aptitude for work in this sector and to make informed decisions about careers; encourage learners to reach a level of knowledge and skills that will facilitate progress into further vocational learning or to potential employment in the sector • encourage learners to value continued learning and remain in the learning process ; allow learners to learn, develop and practice selected skills required for progression in the sector.
Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development – minimum 49 credits
Mandatory Units include:
Unit 11– Level 3 Principles for Implementing Duty of Care in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young Peoples Settings.

Unit 7- Level 3 Understand how to Support positive Outcomes for Children and Young People. |
Unit 8– Level 3 Promote Communication in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young Peoples Settings. |
Unit 9– Level 3 Engage in Person Development in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young Peoples Settings. |
Unit 10– Level 3 Promote Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care or Children’s and Young Peoples Settings. |
Unit 2- Level 3 Promote Child and Young Person Development. |
Unit 4– Level 3 Support Children and Young People’s Health and Safety. |
Unit 5 – Level 3 Develop Positive Relationships with Children, Young People and Others Involved in Their Care. |

Duration
12 - 24 months depending on course and individual circumstances
Assessment
Oral and written unit assessments through student portfolio with practical vocational observation by a qualified Assessor; Witness Testimonies and Professional Discussion.
Entry Requirements
Aged 16 – 17 years old Or Young person with a disability and be under 22 years old, Or Young person who qualifies under the Children (Leaving Care) Act (NI) (2002) and who is under 24 years old.
18 – 24 years old working 21 hrs or above in a relevant job role
All aged groups, must be employed or working voluntary in a relevant job role
Progression Routes
Students can progress to higher education, it also provides opportunities for progression to the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Children’s Care, Learning and Development – Advanced Practice (Wales and Northern Ireland) and other related qualifications in the sector.
